Automatic Layout Tools

2. Automatic Layout Tools

Use those tools to automatically arrange the tasks to flow left-to-right or top-down.  You can work in Full Layout Mode or in Partial Layout Mode.  Below is an explanation of the various tools followed by visual examples of layout results.

Partial Layout Mode: When the blue icon (first icon) is Checked, then the partial layout mode is enabled.  This mode allows you to arrange the selected tasks and nothing else.
Partial Layout based on Forecast Start Date.  When this option is enabled, the partial layout will arrange the tasks so that their forecast start dates line-up vertically.   You can enable or disable this option.
Partial Layout based on Late Paths.  When this option is enabled, the partial layout will first arrange the tasks on the same late path horizontally on the same line.  This makes it easier to review late running tasks.   This option can be enabled or disabled.

Below are examples of possible layouts using the above tools.
Original Plan
After Partial Layout on the Selection with Forecast Date and Late Path Alignment Disabled.  Notice how the tasks that are not selected remain where they are on the board.

Original Plan (random placement)
After Partial Layout with Align-Forecast Dates Enabled (you must calculate the plan to update the forecast dates).    Note how the green box remains in the same location.  Tasks with the same Forecast Start date now align vertically.
The effect of the full layout left to right on the same tasks after partial layouts are disabled.
