The Make Commitments dialog is a simplified version of the Lookahead dialog. It allows users to review their available work on a workplan. The default lookahead is set to 5 days but it can expanded or reduced from the pull down in the dialog.
Report Type (Filter By)
This is a quick filter of the commitments on the work plan or the pending commitments before the work plan is created. You can select to see commitments based on your username, the commitments for your company, for a specific team, or for the entire project.
When the report type is set to Team and there are teams defined in the project, you can filter a team's commitments by selecting a team from this list.
This part of the dialog provides an interactive filter to various task types on the lookahead. The check boxes under Will Do, Can Do, Backlog, Should Do allow you to compose the results of the filter. For example to search for only the Required Work that Can be done within the lookahead, click only the radio button below CAN DO and uncheck all other checkboxes. The numbers indicate the number of possible tasks. They are clickable to isolate the resulting tasks.
Work Plan (Will Do): If you click on the box showing the task count below this option, vPlanner will isolate the currently committed tasks.
Required (Can Do): If you click on the box below this section, vPlanner will isolate the tasks that can be done from the Required tasks that fall within the given lookahead days. The criteria here is that the Forecast Start (FS) date should be within the lookahead AND the Last Start (LS) date is also within the Lookahead.
Backlog (Can Do): This option will include tasks that have FS date within the lookahead AND no LS date (not milestone bound) OR tasks that have FS within the lookahead and LS beyond the lookahead. In other words, tasks that have no defined priority because they are not milestone bound or tasks that are milestone bound and defined as As Soon As Possible.
Required (Should Do): This option will isolate the tasks that must be Committed within the lookahead days to keep the project on track. vPlanner in this case will include any tasks with LS date within the lookahead.
The percentages in the Late section show the percentage of the late tasks within the lookahead days in the Can Do subset or the Should Do subset.
Tip:
If you uncheck the the "Will Do" and select "Can Do" or "Should Do" and then click Apply, vPlanner will isolate the remaining tasks in the set that needs to be added to the workplan.
